The popularity of the internet has made buying and selling of various items as easy as clicking the computer mouse. Most transactions are completed in just a matter of minutes or seconds, depending on the speed of your internet connection.
People used to go from one store to another to choose watches for themselves or for their loved ones.
Antique watches generally refer to mechanical watches that were made more than fifty years ago or more. Antique watches are not very useful in keeping accurate track of time, and instead make good gifts or a nice piece of decoration.
The antique watch business is a multi-billion dollar business. However there are a lot of fakes out there so buying an antique watch requires careful research.
A Brief History of Time
Some knowledge of mechanical watches will help a lot in judging the approximate date of manufacture of the antique watch:
1500s Peter Henlein of Germany created the first pocket watch
1660s Christian Huygens invented the remontoire
1680s Repeating mechanism for bells and sounds patented
1700s Rubies used in watch movements
1750s Enamel used on watch dials
1760s Lever escapement invented
1800s First self winding watch invented
1840s First watch to have winding and setting through crown
1914 World War I popularizes the wristwatch
1914 First wristwatch with alarm
1926 First water proof wristwatch
1956 First watch to display day and date
1960 First watch to have scratch-proof dial
Sources of Antique Watch
Antique watches of many established companies are available such as Rolex, Omega, Universal Geneve, Angelus, Vacheron %26 Constantin, Seiko, Benrus, Breitling, Gruen, Zodiac, IWC, Movado, TAG Heuer, Hamilton, Ingersoll, Shakosha (Citizen watch company of Japan) Gallet, Wittnauer, Bulova etc. There are a lot of sources on the internet selling watches online. Good buys can be found at auctions and second hand markets but the authenticity of these antique watches are doubtful.
Maintenance of Antique Watch
Maintenance of an antique watch is very difficult. The parts are not easily available and antique watches cannot be repaired at all watch shops. So do make sure that the seller also guarantees their repair if the need arises. Most antique watch sellers also provide maintenance and care manuals for the antique watch. Be sure to follow the instructions.
Cost of Antique Watch
Antique watches are available anywhere between $300 to millions of dollars depending upon the make, the date of manufacture, the history of the watch and the jewels in the antique watch. The market price of the antique watch is determined by its snob appeal and social acceptance.
Antique watches make wonderful gifts and give the wearer a distinct and artistic look. Antique watches combine artistic appeal and nostalgic charm. However, antique watches are costly in general and need a lot of maintenance and care.

In order for a Rolex watch to be made available for sale it has to go through a ten step manufacturing process. Each one of these stages ensures that the watch meets the highest quality standards and will withstand the rigorous testing that Rolex requires.

The first component of the watch is that it is made waterproof. Back in 1926 Rolex made the world’s first waterproof watch, the Oyster model. Now they use this technology in all of their models and continue to develop it to withstand even more extreme conditions, depths and temperatures of water.

The perpetual rotor is a vital element in the Rolex. It is a mechanical device which fits inside the watch and which utilises the wearer’s movements to create and transmit energy in to the mainspring. This maintains the tension in the timepiece, ensuring the continued functionality of the watch.

The movement of the watch is contained in what Rolex call the oyster case. This is formed from a single block of metal and is similar to a miniature safe as it is virtually impenetrable.

The oyster case is covered by the case back. This is screwed on to the oyster case using a special locking device to ensure that it is watertight and will not work itself loose.

The knob used to wind the watch, embossed with the Rolex crown, fits snugly on to the watch and creates a seal around itself similar to that of a submarine hatch. This prevents water and dust from entering the watch and so helps to maintain the long life of it.

All of Rolex’s watches are made from only the highest quality materials. Whether that be metal or precious stone, it is guaranteed to have passed the intense testing to ensure the quality is to the standards Rolex will accept.

Before the watch is tested by Rolex for its quality levels it is sent to the COSC, where it is studied, examined and tested for 15 days and nights to check that it can receive their seal of approval. They are looking primarily to ensure the watch will maintain reliability under the most extreme of conditions.

Once COSC have approved the watch it returns to Rolex for further quality control testing. This is done at every stage of the watches manufacture and each individual component is tested along the way, as well as the finished product.

The penultimate component of the Rolex watch is the Officially Certified Superlative Chronometer. This is the self-winding movement used solely by Rolex for their watches and it takes over a year to construct each one.

Finally, Rolex carry out their own intensive testing on the watch before it is sent to be sold. This testing places the watch in extreme conditions of temperature, depth and environment to check its mechanical excellence, as well as checking it for aesthetic discrepancies.

These elements all combine to create a watch which is to an exceptionally high standard, both in terms of the quality of its mechanisms and design levels. Only then are Rolex satisfied that it can be sold with their name on it.

Steve is dreaming to buy a Rolex, but doesn’t have enough money yet. He hopes to earn some with his websites, you can see his Rolex related website at Rolex Duplicate

Watches were first invented in Switzerland many centuries ago. Mechanical watches came first. Then automatic watches were invented. Both types of watches are still in use today. It is a matter of personal preference as to which type of watch you decide to use.

How does the mechanical watch work?
Mechanical watches utilize energy from a wound spring. They keep time through a regulated release of energy through the wheel train, which is a set of gears, and an escapement. The components of the watch are all mechanical. One winding can make the watch run for forty hours. There are some designs that will last for eight to ten days on one winding. In order to keep a mechanical watch working for a long time, it needs to be serviced periodically.

What is the history of mechanical watches?
Mechanical watches go back to Peter Henlein (1480-1542). The number of parts varies, but usually it has about one hundred and thirty parts or more. Some mechanical watches record phases of the moon, keep a record of the date and record time on a daily basis.

What do they do when they service a mechanical watch and how often should you have one serviced?
They make sure that the components are well lubricated. They also make sure that it is free of any dust, dirt or moisture. The rule of thumb to go by for servicing a mechanical watch is to have the water resistance checked every year and have the watch serviced about every three to five years.

Why do people get mechanical watches?
Mechanical watches are made with fine craftsmanship, aesthetics, and tradition. This type of watch is made with wonderful precision by the craftsman who assembles the watch.

How does the automatic watch work?
In automatic watches, the movement of the wrist and body makes the rotor pivot freely. The action of the wrist, even slight action, causes the rotor to rotate back and forth in a circular motion. The mainspring is wound via the movement of the rotor. The mainspring is the coiled spring that powers the watch. This type of watch also needs to be serviced.

What is the history of the automatic watch?
The original rotor goes back to Abraham Louis-Perrelet (1729-1826). The modern rotor used in the automatic watches was developed by Rolex. Emily Borer, the chief of Rolex at the time of its invention, is the one who is given credit for it.

What do they do when they service an automatic watch and how often should you have one serviced?
They will re-lubricate the watch and check the seals on it. The seals should be checked every year. The automatic watch should be serviced every three to five years.

Why do people get automatic watches?
Just as people get mechanical watches for the tradition and craftsmanship people also get automatic watches for the same reasons.

Mechanical watches and automatic watches faded out when quartz watches came about. However, about ten years ago, both types of watches began to gain popularity especially among collectors.

Do you have a collection of watches? Or do you at least own a watch? Is it real? Is it genuine? Or is it a replica? Having a watch and wearing it around our wrist makes us time conscious. And it is not a bad habit or bad connotation. In fact, I consider it as a positive character because it will lessen our tardiness when it comes to work, school, or meetings.

What things do you consider when buying a watch? Does it have to be big? Does it have to be small? Does it have to be Rolex? Or any watch will do as long as it tells you the correct time? Owning a factual watch would cost us a lot of money but buying a fabricated watch will not stay long on your ownership. So, what watch does an individual really need?

You need to consider many things. Though it’s just a watch, you might want to own something that is good, useful, and affordable. A material that is expensive is not always beneficial and not all low-priced things are useless. Sometimes, you just need to be meticulous to possess the things that you really want and you really need.

Now let’s see the most common factors that you need to consider in selecting a watch:

1. Time or When to purchase a watch. If you’re not in a hurry to buy a watch, then take some time first to read articles, scan magazines, visit sites that deals with watch, etc. so you can have a wide variety of watches to choose from. This will give you an idea of how much money you will be spending, plus you don’t need to spend a lot of time in the mall trying to figure out what watch will best suit your needs. But if you really need the watch already, then at least bring with you at least two friends so you could ask for their comments and suggestions regarding watches.

2. Money. Save or set apart your budget (if you have one) so you will not be able to spend it on other things. Some people (including me) tend to spend my budget for other things, which I really do not need. Doing this, will not let you spend too much money for a watch.

3. Brand. Some of you may have your eyebrows raise and ask “What the heck?” This is true. You might want to consider also he brand of what that you will be buying. Is it already tested? Is it known for durable products? You have to know these things if you want to own a watch that will last long.

4. Where to buy. If you’re buying from the watch store itself (e.g. Rolex store) then I guess you can omit this on your list. But if you will be buying from malls or department stores, then you need to consider this factor. This is important for if in case the watch that you bought is damage, you can easily go to the store where you bought it and ask for a replacement. Just be sure that you have the receipt with you for they will not entertain you if you don’t have any proof of purchase.

5. How the watch looks like if you’re wearing it. If you’re already on the store to buy your watch, you might want to consider fitting it before buying it. Does it look good on you? Does it suit all your clothes? I’m sorry to disappoint you but not all watches can be appropriate with different kinds of dresses. Be sure that it looks good on you and you feel comfortable wearing it.

There are so many things that you still need to consider in selecting your watch. But at least you have an idea as to how to select the appropriate watch for you. I hope this helps you even just a bit.

Nowadays a watch is no longer considered a whim. Most people find their sports watch with their favorite team logo more like a necessity which builds up one’s image and character as well as tell the time.

One of the best gifts that someone can give is a watch regardless of the occasion. When you are on the look out to buy a watch for somebody you should take into consideration a lot of factors before jumping into things. Think about how casual that person is. The watch you would like to purchase for him or her should reflect his or her personality and lifestyle. If the receiver is stylish you should go for a watch that matches formal clothes, but if he works in casual clothes and dresses the same at home you should go for an informal looking watch. No matter what his wardrobe is like, you should always keep in mind that the most important factor is his or her desires.

Anybody should own a watch that is suitable to the home and workplace environment, but you may notice that some persons want two watches, one for work and one for home, or just as a precaution in case one of them breaks. An expensive watch can be considered the one made of gold or silver, but such a watch usually attracts unfriendly looks so it is sometimes considered an inappropriate choice for a gift. An expensive quality watch that can impress anyone is not necessarily made from a precious metal. It is sometimes valuable because of what it stands for. A sports watch is in most cases cheaper than other formal or casual watches and its message is clear and simple, fulfilling a noble cause: the support for a favorite sports team. The exterior of a sports watch is somehow different than other watches mainly because a sports watch is about functionality as much as it is about looks.

A sports watch can be suitable for any sport fan, no matter if he likes to practice that sport or just to watch it. It can also be used to boost one’s self confidence. Some people think about the qualities of the person printed on the watch and then think of themselves as being somehow similar to their idols. A sports watch can even motivate a person to be just as strong and perseverant in achieving his goals as his favorite team or sports player is.

You should always take into consideration some criteria prior to purchase like durability, because you wouldn’t like a watch that breaks down after a few months. Durability is given by its strap, a good choice being a thick rubber or metal strap, with a robust design and a brand name that is recognizable. Another thing you should remember is “water resistance” which is essential for swimmers and divers or even people who wash their hands and forget to take the sports watch off. The minimum depth for a good sports watch is at least 50 m.

The watch’s features are also of great importance as they talk about quality. Most sports watches have features like stopwatch for timing, something that is rarely left out, diving depths, temperature reading and, why not, a compass. You may also find an available for purchase sports watch that includes night vision, tachometers, pitching speed readers and other unique tools that can come in handy sometimes, but it can be quite expensive. The style of a sports watch is not necessarily exquisite usually having a strong shape, but you shouldn’t buy a sports watch if it doesn’t attract you or if you don’t think it will attract the person you are buying it for.

The watch that you are looking for is available for purchase for sure, because the watch market is filled with unique designs, a variety of colors and all shapes and sizes. It is no longer a matter of lack of options, but rather an issue of choice. Some watches come with all kinds of designs including logos of favorite teams, cartoon pictures and car manufacturers. If you are looking for a gametime sports watch, you can easily find one you’ll on the internet. A very appealing website is sportlogowatches.net where you can decide on a gametime sports watch with which you can proudly call yourself a sports fan and a supporter of your favorite team.

On this site you can find the perfect gametime sports watch for you as there are so many bearing the logos of just about every team in the world. Grouped in a number of categories, the website makes it easy for buyers to choose their future watch. Even though they bear logos of sports teams, the watches have a lot of designs that match both formal and informal wardrobes. You can also choose a gametime sports watch for kids and other more special watches from vintage, owner and diamond legend series that have indeed an exquisite look.

A gametime sports watch around one’s wrist can be impressive, but is can also be a way good way to combine something you like with something useful. You should always keep in mind the elements you seek in a sports watch before buying one because the products are many and you can have exactly what you want.

People use watches to tell time. The range of watches that you will find is enormous. With most of these watches the popular form of power is that of watch batteries. These watch batteries in general will not have any brand names attached to them. You will find that watch batteries come in different sizes. These sizes are generally based on the watch itself.

For most watches the batteries are flat discs which need to be inserted in place by someone who has had some experience. The usual instance to get a new watch battery is when your watch is running low. At this point you will need to take your watch to a watch smith and get them to replace the watch battery. You can set the time on the watch once you have gotten your watch back.

As watches come in different sizes you will find that it is possible to replace these larger sized batteries without any need for special tools. The larger sized watches can use watch batteries which are double A or triple A sized. You should however make sure that you know the battery size before you buy your replacement batteries.

Now while having your watch working well is a vital concern, it is important that you dispose of the used up batteries. You can also find out about where you can find a battery recharger if you feel that this device will help you with having a working watch. Of course these are temporary measures. Watch batteries while they are necessary do need to be replaced continuously until the time comes for you to buy a brand new watch.

If you feel that having a battery charged watch is inconvenient, there are many possibilities that you can see. These will of course mean having one of the old fashioned winding watches. These watches are the perfect gift to give someone close. Of course you will probably need to find some other way of finding out the time.

While technology advances at a furious pace there are still some items in our world that don’t need this helping hand from technology. In fact you will find that these items are made according to centuries old formulas. All that is needed is for you to see if a new watch battery will help your watch to perform its work well.
What is a Watch Winder, and, are all watch winders the same?

A watch winder is a device designed to wind up an automatic watch when it is not worn by the owner; so that the watch is ready to be worn by the owner any time.

NOT all watch winders are the same. Before buying a watch winder, one should consider the following:

1. An automatic watch winder should provide the three full turning directions so that, no matter what types of watches youI have now or in the future, the watch winder will fit the specifications. The 3 turning directions are: Clockwise, Counter-clockwise, and Alternate. “Alternate” means the watch winder will automatically turn clockwise and counterclockwise alternately. Watch brands such as Rolex requires this Alternate turning mode.

2. An automatic watch winder should provide the industry standard “Turn-and-Rest” programming. That is, it should turn for a period of time, then rest for a period of time. This cycle should repeat automatically until the watch is fully, or close to fully wind up. There should be little or no human intervention required. That is, an automatic watch winder should be controlled by an IC electronic programming, to control all the above functions.

The above are the minimum requirements one should consider when buying a watch winder. Without the above functions, you might run into the risk of over-stressing your watch; and reducing the long term mechanical life of your fine timepiece.

Other factors to consider are the material used to construct the winder. Is it made of real wood, or cheap thin particle board? Not all wood are the same grade or of the same quality. Many inexpensive cheap winders are made of thin untreated particle board, which is not durable and is easily deformed or broken. If you own an expensive timepiece, it is not recommended to use those inexpensive lower quality winders.

Remember, cost should not be the only considerations when buying a watch winder. After all, you have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars invest in a fine timepiece. You should investigate thoroughly when buying a watch winder, and to make sure the winder is indeed compatible with your automatic watch, and won’t harm your watches in the long term.

Many people may overlook watch winders because they think that they are non-essential items. This could not be more untrue. Watch winders are actually great for keeping expensive or vintage watches in great condition. They will also keep the watch running with the correct time, all of the time.
Many people wonder if they really need a watch winder. For people who live extremely busy lives, being without the time can be a great hindrance. As a result, a watch winder can be a great time saver. Not to mention, watch winders can extend the life of a watch. If a watch is continuously running, the gears will not suffer from stagnation. Watches have lubrication built in, so if the gears stop, this lubrication can dry up and cause problems. However, if continuously running, the watch should stay stronger for longer.
Watch winders are also great because they can save you money. Watch repair can be extremely costly. Having a watch winder is a very sound investment that ends up paying for itself and more. Additionally, watch winders serve to protect the watch. Many people lose or misplace their watches. However, with a watch winder, it will always be in a safe place. Simply putting the watch in the winder before bed, and it will be there in the morning. Also, the watch will be sitting in a case, surrounded by soft material and protected from the elements. For the most expensive watches, having a safe place to store it is very helpful. Some people can even lock their watch winders, which can help prevent theft.
Understanding why watch winders are important, and deciding to buy one, is only half of the battle. Actually, buying a watch winder can seem like a daunting task to someone who has never done it before. The best technique is to search online and find the best watch winder seller to fit your needs. There are many different kinds of online stores that offer a variety of watch winders for sale. The best online stores usually stress their customer service, and display other trustworthy elements such as SSL certification and membership in the Better Business Bureau.
Deciding the type of watch winder you need simply comes down to preference. Some watch winders are relatively fancy, while others feature a simple design. If the watch being wound is expensive, then it might make more sense to have a nicer watch winder to go with it. However, if the watch is not of the greatest concern to you, then a simpler watch winder would suffice. Some watch winders can hold more than one watch, and others are equipped with cases and locks. The best way to buy a watch winder is have a clear idea of what you want before you start searching. But if you’re new to watch winders, browsing an online store can give you ideas as to the different options available.

People keep asking me - which watch winder to buy. Surprisingly, there are dozens of different watch winders in the market. You could always find a discount watch winder or buy the cheapest watch winders, but most of the automatic watch owners are dealing with the decision whether to buy Steinhausen watch winders, Scatola watch winders or Eilux watch winder.

For the sake of propriety, a few words about watch winders: Automatic watch winders are mainly used for two purposes:

1. Automatic watch winder - Automatic watches are getting more and more common. Instead of rewinding the watch manually each time the power reserve is out, one can use a watch winder. It may get more complicated to manually wind watches with complicated parameters such as perpetual calendar and moon phase.

2. Winding watches with screwed crowns - Each time one screws or unscrews the crown is worn down. Watch winders will enable the watch to operate for a longer time.

Before we go on, I must add one more suggestion: When buying a new watch winder, get also a watch winder box or a watch winder case to protect your watch winder.

The number one automatic watch winder is definitely the Scatola watch winder. The Scatola watch winder is designed by world class artisans. In fact, Scatola watch winders are manufactured in limited quantities so you can be sure of the extra care that goes into each watch winder. A Scatola watch winder is made of quality products such as gold plated clasps and zippers, and Swiss made high precision micro motors.

The next best watch winder would have to be the Steinhausen watch winder. A Steinhausen watch winders certainly has the best prestige look of all automatic watch winders. It is the best way to display your watches collection in your living room and impress your friends.
